Intergenerational England

Intergenerational England is committed to strengthening connections between generations by embedding intergenerational approaches across key areas of society including the workforce, housing, and health. IE champions a future where all age groups are valued, engaged, and connected through intentional practices that break down age-based barriers.

While we live in a multigenerational society, Intergenerational England believes that true intergenerational connection requires deliberate action creating opportunities for mutual respect, learning, and collaboration across generations.

Through its work, Intergenerational England demonstrates how intergenerational thinking can support inclusive workplaces, healthier communities, and housing models that reflect the needs of all ages.

IE advocates for systems and policies that enable these relationships to flourish, bridging generations to build a more empathetic, connected, and resilient society.

IE Aims

IE is committed to advancing intergenerational practice and policy, championing solutions that strengthen communities and promote equity across the life course. Its framework is grounded in four interconnected pillars:

  1. Intergenerational Social Support Systems
Building place-based networks that link generations to boost individual wellbeing and reinforce community resilience.

  2. Life Course Approach
Encouraging a fluid understanding of ageing—recognising that care, learning, and wellbeing span all life stages, and that intergenerational connection enhances each phase.

  3. Understanding Intersectionality
Acknowledging that people’s experiences are shaped by overlapping identities—such as age, race, gender, and socioeconomic background—and ensuring that intergenerational strategies are inclusive, accessible, and equitable.

  4. Intergenerational Integrated Partnerships
Driving lasting change by embedding intergenerational thinking across health, education, housing, employment, and beyond—fostering collaborations that reshape systems to work for all ages.
