Volunteer Spotlight in Surrey: Celebrating Emma

This week, we’re shining a very bright light on one of Intergenerational Music Making’s incredible young volunteers: Emma!

Emma a year 12 student, has been volunteering with IMM for the past eight months, supporting community days, intergenerational workshops, our Creative Health Hub in Guildford and taking on key administrative support. Her commitment, compassion and talent have made her an invaluable part of our team.  From helping older adults experiencing loneliness feel reconnected and energised, to empowering young people and families through creative expression, Emma brings warmth, curiosity and professionalism to every space she enters. She embodies IMM’s ethos: creativity, inclusion, kindness and bringing generations together in meaningful, human ways.

Emma joined us in Parliament as we hosted the APPG MarketPlace on Tackling Loneliness and Connected Communities, where Intergenerational England proudly serves as the Secretariat. Emma engaged confidently with MPs, sector leaders and partners sharing her lived experience as a young volunteer and championing the power of intergenerational connection.

Seeing her advocate so passionately for community, belonging and creative health was a powerful reminder of why youth voice matters at every level of system change.

Emma represents the very best of what intergenerational practice can be:

  • bringing people together who might never otherwise meet

  • listening deeply and supporting individuals of all ages

  • building confidence, resilience and shared joy through music and creativity

  • strengthening the fabric of local communities from the ground up

Thank you for your dedication, your heart, and the impact you create every single week
